A Guitar with MOJO.

I get a few repairs a week, I don't chase them or advertise, just word of mouth, I am fortunate to be good mates with a few muso's, most of my repair stuff is pretty pedestrian, lifted bridges , buzzing frets, truss rod adjustments and lot's and lot's of setup's but I enjoy doing them and it funds the W.A.S , every now and then you get something really special , Not so long ago it was a Les Paul Black Beauty , but the one that came today takes the cake for me, now the name Izzy Osmanovich may not mean a lot to some of you , but in newcastle he's guitar playing royalty, been in a heap of bands , most notably The Screaming Jets for a fair hunk of their time together , he's done a few world tours , had heaps of different Guitars , some really nice rare Stuff , but the Guitar that Izzy is best known for his his Japanese Tele , he's had it for ages , it's his favorite , he tells me it just feels right , it's been on every tour with him since he started with the Jet's and, well it's developed some Character and Mojo along the way , But all that hard rock sweat has taken it's toll on the electronics so it's in for a Birthday , anyway checkout the Pics , you will get the idea.

Just how I like to see guitars Paul........used! She just in for a clean up in the electric's or time for a few items to be updated?

The challenge for me is to do what needs to be done,which is to replace the electrics without affecting the Mojo, it's setup just right so I plan to just replace the pot's , the switch ,the wiring and the jack ,no polish , except maybe the frets,no cleaning no adjustments,the bare minimum. oh and fit the oldest most corroded Tele knobs I can find in my stash.

I'm with Nick. As much as I appreciate minty vintage guitars, that usually means they haven't been played, and the only reason not to play a guitar is that it just isn't all that good. Honest wear is a real judge of a guitar, I feel.

By the by don't let Fender see these pix, they'll come out with a replica, carefully belt-sanded and hammered to look relic'd, and then charge an extra $3,000 for it. Ever seen a Joe Strummer replica?

Have a look at some of these vids on youtube Paul. Relicing with PCB etching solution works quite well but there is an art to it. Less is more and it should be kept in mind that the 'patina' will continue to develop for a while 'after' you rinse off the solution. OOOO steel wool is the go and you can use that alone if you want the knobs to age in more naturally. Another trick is to scuff and apply snail pellets that have been mixed into a paste, works great on greening out copper and brass. If you want more black you can also 'fume' the parts by sealing them in an icecream container sitting on a block above a solution that contains a good a dash of ammonium...watch the fumes with all of this stuff and remember, less is more. Also keep in mind that because of their shape, teli control knobs will generally wear plating from around the sides toward the top but not so much down low so go a bit harder with the wool where it counts.
