New Project Advice
A question for the brains trust.
I would like to have a go at building a copy of a weisseborn Kona. These instruments are similar to a hollowneck weissenborn but smaller all over, have a solid neck from the 7th fret and have a thicker body.
There is a set in the stash I would like to use however the side material is only 75mm wide. The Kona guitar requires a 100mm thickness at the butt with an arched back down to 75mm at the neck join.
No problems joining and matching a piece on the sides so it will fit the template but how will I go bending it on the pipe? Will it hold together or do I need to support the join some how?
All advice or suggestions greatly received.
Cheers
Alan

Hey Alan,
I think Dom joined some guitar sides to make them wider & then proceeded to bend them to shape.
I'm pretty sure he described his process in a thread (but I don't think he started the thread).

Re: New Project Advice
I'd be inclined just to use the 75mm width but set the linings 7.5 proud of the top and bottom edge and use wide bindings with side purfling.
That would get you 90 mm depth

What sort of wood were you thinking of using Alan?
If it's local stuff I may have something that's 100mm and matches.

Re: New Project Advice
Yep good advice Bob. The weiss set I have here is too nice to hack up so I will keep it for a future weissenborn project.
I will do some measuring the arvo and contact you via email.
Cheers
