Custom Tele and King Billy and Blackwood 000

Post by ozwood » Fri May 27, 2011 6:33 pm

Hi All,

Been busy ,

I know electrics are'nt really our thing but what the hell.

The Tele is for a Muso mate of mine , he had very Specific requirements in terms of sound and apperance , he's a neat freak by nature , but loves to play good old hard Rock , he's been a pro Muso for years , and knows exactly what he want's , the challenge was realizing that vision , so I decided on the clean look of Black and White with a few trims to show it means buisness, it has all the goodies , Graph tech saddles and nut , Spurzels ,compound radiused fretboard and the killer is the EMG pick ups combined with an onboard 20 DB overdrive , so it can be a clear , bright delicate instrument , with the Pull of a KNOB becomes an Ear Bleed inducing killer, the next . can't say I really enjoyed making this one , the end result is pleasing , the owner is really happy with it , but apart from the neck it was mostly a routing and painting exercise my two least favorite activities , but he has an accoustic coming as well, I'm enjoying building that so much more .

I finished the KB/Blackwood 000 a while ago , it's for a Charity Auction in September, it features Trevor Gore's Falcate Bracing with a few Mods , it's all Australian Timbers , King Billy top , Headstock burl ,Mulga fretboard , Snakewood Bridge, Tiger Myrtle rossette and BW Bindings are from Tim S , Blackwood Back and Sides from Steve Gibson , I'm a crap Photographer with a Crap Camera so you will have to trust me when I say the Back Sides are full of figure , the neck is Blackwood with a Vic Ash lamination , as is the veneer on the back of the headstock , the Bracing is King billy , the sound is clear and bright with plenty of sustain a nice even spread of tone but the Mids and Highs are the sweetest I loved making this guitar , the sound has blown me away ,it was made with a lot of love for my favorite Charity , I hope it reaches a price deserving of the time and Love that went into it .

Cheers,

Paul.

Well that ain't no Nashville Tele but your customer has taste and you did a very tidy job of it Paul. There will be a lucky bidder at that charity auction I'd say, I hope it goes for what it's worth or more.

Jim

Someone please turn up the Tele!

EDIT. Nice choice on skipping the tenth marker too, leaving just that diamond and the double at the twelfth.

Codswallop! Electrics are guitars and this is a guitar builders forum and there are quite few stunning looking electrics with the wow factor on it already.

Now there is one more.

And the more Teles the merrier, I say

Very nice. I like the look of binding and all the black bits.

Cheers

Very nice indeed Paul, both of them. No question that the teli owner is happy, what's not to like and I do hope your acoustic raises a great price because it certainly looks a million bucks.

Cheers

Thanks again for your thoughts,

The Tele Owner did two gig's over the weekend , told me it's now his favorite Guitar ( he has a LP studio, a Strat from the Custom shop, another Fender Tele and an Archtop) so I'm well chuffed he's so happy with both the Sound and the feel , he Think's the Compund radius fretboard it the Go , rekon's string bends are heaps better and the whole thing is more comfortable to play .

Dan , to answer your questions
I have some great KB that I am saving....so am curious about how you braced the top and how the finished product sounds...
I left the top a little thicker and braced as I normally would ( Trevor gore's Falcate bracing) as per Jeff highlands advice. and the results were far better than I ever Imagined , and a Bit of a surprise for a King Billy Top , all that have played it, have been impressed with the brightness , clarity and Volume , I Think a 000 or OM is about as Big as you would want to make with a King Billy top.

If I had the skills and Equipment to make a recording I would , but I don't.

Jeff Highland maybe able to provide a Players Thoughts on the sound, that descibes it better than I am Able .

Cheers,

Paul.

Hi MBP,

Tell us your name so we have a proper intro !

Thanks for you kind words,

The Fretboard is from Stewmac , I'm not quite clever enough to sand a Compound radius by hand yet :D :D don't Know the type of ebony , but I agree it was a pretty exeptional piece of ebony , as for the EMG's the Guy who owns the Guitar plays in a local band called the Cruisers it's now his Fav guitar and his work horse , he loves the EMG's no hum , heaps of sustain , bright clear , with plenty of bite , we both reckon they are the go . I got them from Bluestar music ,Ted blue the Guy who runs the show is a top bloke who knows how to look after a Customer.

Enjoy the Forum.
