Fag and a Chiko Roll

Post by kiwigeo » Thu Jan 27, 2011 5:15 pm

So here I am out training on my push bike and I've pulled up at a deli for a quick short black. Another cyclist rolls in, parks his bike...and lights up a cigarette. As I was chatting with him the girl from the deli trots out with a Chiko roll which my new friend consumes in about 30seconds. Turns out hes been on the road since 6.30am and he hasn't had anything to eat for 5 hours.

The contrast between us wasn't restricted to our concepts of healthy living. There was me with my $10,000 carbon fibre wonder bike and this guy was treddling around on an aluminium bike that I reckon must have been one of the first ever produced.

If he's digg'in it, and it sound to me like he really is, then more power to him Marty. One of my mates was a real heath nut, left school and went new age for a while. Started do'in a few fun runs and progressed to marathons. No drinks, no smoke, mung bean, so clean..run, run, run, obsession, depression, hung himself on a door knob dead at 32 boo fucken hoo.

I use to go fishing with a fellow down in SA. I had a pretty nice rod and reel combo. He had a busted ass piece of fiberglass with an eggbeater reel. Nylon line that was about 10 years old. Most of the eyes on his rod were broken, as was the top 1/3 of the rod, held together with electrical tape.

But could he catch fish.....and me, well I don't fish much anymore.

Best rod I ever saw belonged to my ex-wife's uncle, it was a loooong length of Bamboo that he'd tied some old eyes onto & a way of attaching the reel (That might have even been tied on with some sort of twine as well from memory  ). He could sit on the beach up past the high tide mark, cast out further than I could & I was standing up to me 'nads in cold saltwater & he'd still pull in more fish!

That guy sounds like my kind of sportsman Martin, except I'd replace the smoke with a pint. :gui

Nice to hear in church but not in a Mexican prison.

He was going on about his girlfriend and also his ex wife...I suspect spending hours on the road is a way for him to escape attention from both parties.
