Re: Temperature conversion charts
Thanks for that one Padma. Had me pissing myself.
I work with a bunch of guys that can't even imagine what 10 degrees is. Never goes below 14 in Cairns, and then they are wearing Jumpers (sweaters) and beanies (toques) and bitching about the cold. Nothing like when I had to break the ice out of the wet sanding bucket back in Canada.
Up here in the tropics we only have two seasons as well, the wet season and the very wet season. Line is blurring between the two though, and I'm starting to grow webbed feet.

Re: Temperature conversion charts
I am with the guys Allen works with but find it hard to bitch about the cold as I don't reckon I could even move my lips if it got to 10 degrees. The coldest night I remember up here is 12 and I was under a couple of doonas and shivering. Good on you mob for living in that climate though cause if you didn't the ice hockey fans would be watching water polo and that would not be as much fun cause you can't see them kicking the shit out of each other under the water.

I was in Edmonton when it was -22 and the locals were walking around in flanellette shirts, no sweater, no six inch thick overcoat, amazing. The snot was freezing in my nose.

I use to work in a sawmill and when it got to -40C you could go home. When it warmed up to -20 you were just about ready for a game of golf.
A work mate's son just move to Cairns from a city in the very north of China. When he left China it was -33C and when he landed in Cairns it was +33C. That poor bastard. He hasn't poked his head out of the apartment yet.

I was lucky enough to spend today walking around on the Reo bar frames that will tomorrow become a 260m^3 concrete slab. Your ankles and calves are abused by walking around on the balls of you feet all day. Underneath the steel is black plastic just to keep the heat up. It was only 37c. Fortunately I was able to remind myself of the tourists I've seen around town lately with some truly horrific sunburn
. I even saw one Pom who had clearly done one smeared wipe with sunscreen on her legs thinking it would then be fine to sleep on her back in the sun all afternoon.
the finger marks were clearly visible up her shins.

I landed in Edmonton after working fishing boats in the Gulf and Torres Straits for a couple of years. Arrived Boxing Day, I'd never seen snow before. Still dont want to.
