Complete guitar - frequency testing technique

Post by gerryt » Fri Sep 13, 2019 6:27 am

Hi all

Been a while but I've been building away and I'm almost finished my falcate braced OM. I'm just about to permanently attach the neck (FB extension glued down on a "standard" bolt on neck). I was wondering what the best technique will be to take a frequency spectrum on the completed guitar. Where to hold it? Where to tap it. String it up first? Daft questions I know but I can't see it having been asked elsewhere on the forum.

Thanks in advance, Gerry

The way I do it:

1. If strings on I damp them with a piece of foam.
2. Hold the guitar in a normal playing position while sitting
3. Tap around bridge area
4. Mic about 300mm away from sound hole.

There's some new videos on Robbie O'Brien's site which show how I do all the tap testing etc..
