Brace yourself Martin but I can't call myself a true "Kiwi"..............I can't stand the stuff  A smidge of Vegemite is my prefered yeast product of choice.

I would consider that a GOOD Thing as what is masquerading as Marmite here in the Antipodes is definitely not Marmite!....it is not the Real Deal English Made MARMITE that we buy when you buy a jar that says Marmite on the jar here. The company that makes it certainly has the right to the name as they must have registered it here when they started to make it. One of the first things I do when I go to the UK is go and buy the biggest jar of Marmite I can find and gorge myself :) ...BTW thats a Marmite smeared smile too....I love it.....the Genuine article that is....
...all is not lost though, the real Marmite can be bought in this land but its not called Marmite for the reason stated above....it is called "Our Mate" but comes in such small jars that it is ridiculous ...and expensive... but still irresistible....

The previous home owners left some here. I think they are still in the back of the pantry. I'd be happy to ship them over. Does the stuff ever go bad? I only ask because we bought the house about 7 years ago.

Got to agree :D

But it is the South African version of Marmite which is the real deal

But seriously, I think it comes down to what you grew up with.

12 years here now, and I've become accustomed to all things Australian, (including the grotty snags) but despite multiple attempts, Vegemite is still beyond the pale. It's one of only a handfull of "treats" which I still go to the local ethnic shop for. (and here they have renamed it "ZARMATE")

Actually I have tried the new kids Vegemite with the orange top and its pretty good stuff....probably because there is a lot less salt in it....The real stuff is as you say beyond the Pale....and I'm an Aussie Kid but not a Vegemite Kid I am afraid:)

Marmite cant go bad because it starts off bad.
