Help Find A Book for me

Post by Dave White » Mon Jan 24, 2011 3:45 am

My wife is trying without success to find the following Australian book:

"Aboriginal Technology: Fibre Craft" by Alex Barlow, 1992 MacMillan Ed.

If anyone there can get hold of a copy for me I'd be really grateful and will send Australian dollars to cover the purchase cost and postage to the UK.

Dave,

I know these are not 'the' book ur after, but it may be worth while asking the following Ebay sellers if they have a copy....where there is smoke and all that.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Watercraft-abori ... 588c21b343

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Black-Australia- ... 2eaa6daaa9

If by chance one of them does have a copy but does not sell OS, let me know and I will buy it and forward on.

Cheers

Kim

Dave, I don't know where to buy one, some schools may have copies, it was used as a text.
My local library has it listed and is only 30 pages so if you have no luck with a copy, I could photocopy it for you.
cheers
Jeff

Hi Dave, I phoned the publisher and it went out of print in 1999. Give me some time and I will check the second hand books shops here in Darwin. I also have a mate who has a thousand or more books on aboriginal Australia but it may take time to find him as he is a bit hard to get hold of.

No luck with my mate Dave. There are no copies at ABEbooks.com so it looks like you will be pushing poo up hill, I can't find a contact for the author so am thinking Jeff's option is your best bet.

Karen is on the case. She's a real blood hound for that sort of thing. Will be checking all the local op shops that have a huge selection of books as well as the second hand book stores.

Like everybody else has found, it seems to be out of print? But, it is at my local library. Do you have a valid library card?
Looks like you may already have other options, but at 30 pages, should be no problem to scan/email it - just let me know.

Thanks Guys - fantastic repsonse!!

Kim - thanks for the links, Debbie will investigate. She has had the book as a "want" with a number of Australian on-line book sites for a while with no success.

Let's see what Karen comes up with and then if there's no joy I'll take up Jeff's kind offer to photocopy it.

Good news - Debbie has managed to find a copy from a seller in Hivesville, Queensland. Thanks again for all your responses and kind offers.
