What a weekend!

Post by Paul B » Mon Aug 31, 2009 1:40 pm

Finally getting some guitar building done again after a break of almost a year - well, we did have another kid in December, so I guess I'll blame him. Nice to be back at it though.

Went to the accountants to get our tax returns done on Saturday morning and both my wife and I are each getting a nice fat cheque in a couple weeks. So, first thing I did was get approval to buy a 10" cabinet saw from Carbatec, we hadn't even got out of the guys office yet. Been wanting one of those for ten years at least. The weekend was off to a good start.

After the accountants appointment I went back to fitting out my new shop. I was asked by the boss in my last job to organise the disposal of the old (brand new) fluoro light fixtures from the lab (2 x 6.3m, plus one @3m). No worries says I, consider them disposed of. So we got them home a few months ago, stacked them up in the garage, the bloody things fell over and landed on my shin - took me fully 5 minutes to realise my leg probably wasn't broken. A couple weeks later and I'm cleaning out the garage - had to move the light fixtures to sweep under them, and the bloody things fell down again and landed on my other shin, I was positive my leg was busted for the first five minutes or so. So on Saturday I decide to install them and, being on a buzz cause of the new table saw I let my guard down and the damned things fell over again and got me on the foot this time! Took me two days to realise my foot probably wasn't broken.

Every time I've touched these things they've conspired to cause me pain, and now that I have them suspended above my head in the workshop - I'm kinda scared to go in there now. Nice and bright in there now though :)

Well, anyways, it was an interesting, fruitfull, not to mention bloody painful weekend. Lessons learnt; Tax time is good & fluorescent light fixtures don't stack well.

Dang Paul. Are you sure you want it hanging over your head? It seems to have a taste for flesh. Welding it in place maybe?

Congratulations on the tablesaw.

:lmao

It's funny 'cause for once it wasn't me. They've given up being concerned about me when I bash my head yet again at work.

Congats on the new saw.

Oh Paul  Sorry to laugh, but look at it from our point of view - it is very funny!

I often find those 'freebies' come back to bight you. You end up paying for them in one way or another. In your case, they were still pretty cheap - two shins and a foot ain't bad :D

What is curious though is why our human nature, except possibly Hesh's who wouldn't have anything around that could fall over, allows us to have it happen multiple times? Why don't we, post injury say, hmmm, that's not a good place. I'm going to fix that NOW ??? No, we just say, I'll do something about that and leave it be... Better still, when we put it there in the first place and look at it then, prior to any injury and say "That's probably not very safe..." as though that will fix it? *sigh* ...

Good job on the cabinet saw. If I could fit one in, I'd have one too. Have you decided on a model?

Cheers,

Jeremy.
