Hesh Honey, its a 3/4 ton truck with an extended bed and an extended cab. Power steering is not overrated. You may just have to trust me on this, its not. The pump doesn't just help with the moving the beast around, it also assists with breaking. So yeah, I was more than willing to pay the price.

Here in Australia there'd also be an extended matress in the back of the truck.

Is that truck pimped up so you need a stepladder to get from the ground to the running board? And what about lights...how many lights do you have across the cab? Oh and not to forget gun racks...how many gun racks in the cab?

LOL thats a laugh......it never gets down to -7degC in Adelaide. The trouble with Christchurch is its basically built on a swamp...lots of low lying land where the smoke and smog and cold gathers during the winter. My parents had a house over i nSpreydon that backed onto the upper Heathcote river....damn cold part of town even in the summer.

BTW the tops in the previously posted picture are actually my stash of Master Grade practise tops....the working tops are out of the picture.

You just had to rub it in didn't you?
Yeah know what you mean about the climate, had a few friends lived in Avonside over the years & in winter that cold damp feeling never went away. I'm currently living over in queenspark with the Travis wetlands just within spitting distance.Brrrrrrrrrrrr. Hence why I keep most of my meagre supplies  of good wood at work in a controlled environment, a cold dampish garage aint no place for a cut up,dead tree unless you need kindling.
And by the way, it ain't smog....it's atmospheric mood lighting, just happens to be brown that's all.

Lillian, hope the holiday is on the up finally! If your truck plays up again just give Heshie a call, I'm sure he'll be glad to pick you up in his purple pickup

The bright spark architect who designed my parent house put in a garage under the house. Every winter the Heathcote would flood in through the back door of the garage. Nah as much as I love the mother country I dont miss the Christchurch winters and I dont miss that bldi Northeaster either.

Yeah I like around the Beckenham/Somerfield area, willows on the river banks and nice quiet atmosphere, but you're right, the thought of getting my carpets washed with silt everytime we get a decent downpour doesn't appeal.

At the moment the just happens to be a mattress in the back of the truck, but it has a bunch of boxes and first apartment furniture on top of it.

While others my deem that I'm compensating with the truck, I'm not compensating that badly. Its not a 4x4, no running boards, no running lights, and no gun racks. But I thought about putting in a rack to hang my recurve bows from, but I haven't been shooting in years now, so it never happened. Its my must haul crap and don't want to rent a truck truck.

We bought it when we moved up here. We spent almost as much on the truck as we would have a rental, plus we got to keep it. It was a plus that it was a diesel, until we got up here. When diesel hit $3/gal it got parked. I thought I'd never drive it again when it hit $5/gal. $150 to fill it was beyond my means.

Sorry to disappoint Martin. I only look butch, I'm really not.

Love the picture of Hesh's truck. He does seem to be partial to that color doesn't he.

NZ sounds like it is best visited during the summer months.

That equates to $1.25 US per litre....That's a lot more than it is here. We're at $1.16 south pacific pesos. Lovin' the noth Queensland local even more now. :D

Yeah it can be abit wet & cold Lillian, but if we didn't have the cold weather then Kiwi's and Aussies wouldn't be able to come and Ski on the Southern Alps that run up the middle of the island & even driving from the coast you can be up in the mountains within an hour- hour and a half.

Plus in winter the south island becomes a whole new place. Like this Image

This has been an Advert on behalf of the New Zealand Tourism board

Diesel was always less then the cheapest gas anywhere I had ever lived. Then we moved to the Pacific Northwest. Here is was equal to the premium grade or more. There was only one or two places that was paying more than we were when gas prices went through the roof in the entire country. I'm just lucky living here I guess.

We so want to go back to New Mexico. Nine - ten months of gray, wet and 40-50ºF is just too much for me. We are going back to the sunshine.

Its beautiful Nick! Now I really want us to find a way to visit. Thank you for the pictures.

As for the Hesh's truck, I think the black on purple will look great myself. Send pictures when it's done.

I have a neighbor who measures distances that he has to drive by how many beers he will drink on the trip... :D

And yes he does have a genuine "easy rider rifle rack" across the back window of his huge, soon-to-be-bankrupt-Chrysler-Ram-4X4...

He is the nicest guy though and a hell of a great neighbor who is always looking out for his neighbors.

The purple truck with a black top sounds great to me... :D

I must be compensating too - I drive a little Honda compact.....
