Don't know if it's an optical illusion caused by the Herringbone pattern or my failing eyesight :oops: but it almost looks like it's "notched" on the lower bout sides of the waste? :roll:, won't be of course but just a weird phenomena.
Not sure about those dodgy patch ups though :? But as you say Rob, some nice close ups for somebody wanting to copy or recreate a parlour.

I was thinking it looked strange as well , like it's lost it's way or it's " fair curve " about the red arrows. Is this the bit you mean Nick ?
I like the back and front of the head piece though .

what about the neck material , looks like a cedar , would it be a Spanish cedar neck ?

Seems that, from this example, absolute symmetry, and perfectly aligned joint work on the purfling, bindings and sides was not an absolute requirement for hand made instruments,,,,,,,back in the day.....

Thems the bits Rob, I think bulges would have been a more apt description than notches.
