Done quit....

Post by nnickusa » Thu Jul 04, 2013 10:52 am

SMOKING, that is. Just passed 6 months smoke free, after having been a smoker for most of my adult life....
I wish I was half the man my dog thinks I am....

Cheers,
Nick

My hat is off to you Nick, I did two and a half years and then stupidly started again, now I have to quit again and that is some of the hardest work I've ever done. Keep it up and again congratulations.

Cheers, Jim....

Yeah tough row to hoe.....I've gone up to 18 months before, but it was never this hard. I guess the older I get, the more diffcult it is. I feel heaps better for it, tho. Lungs are still clearing out, but I'm getting there. I couldn't imagine having to do this again, so I plan on staying quit.

I have a deal with the wife, but. If I make it to 80, I get to take it up again....Always DID love a ciggie....

Well done Nick.

I've been off the gaspers for about six years now and used Champix as well.

The bloke that I build with (Dave) gave them up at the same time.

The only side effect was that Dave farted like a demon when he was on the Champix.

Well done Nick and keep at it and keep your guard up, I gave up 28years ago at a time when I was on 30 a day but even now I still occassionally think "Geez I could go a ciggy" but of course it's a lot easier now to let it pass. Just got to help my fiance chuck it in now, poor woman had managed to give it the boot, then we had our series of earth wobbles which sent her back to the death sticks.

Yep great effort Nick. I gave them away a few times but I have been off them for over twenty years now. I was determined to quit the habit so I left eight cigarette's in a packet on the fridge and went cold turkey. I never realised they shrunk down to 4 in the packet as my teenage daughter decided to have a go a few times!

Best thing I ever did for myself.

Keep it up mate, it is not an easy thing to do.

Cheers

Good one Nick, I did the same a few years back . I was only ever an after hours smoker , specially if I was having a beer, which for a while back then meant every night. kicked that one as well back to a couple of nights a week with a few ten month dry spells . Last Christmas I decided to have a few cig's on Christmas day and that was going to be a dumb treat for myself. That was fine, I didn't feel like having any more over the next week till I had a few beers again and that's when I had Big cravings , I couldn't believe how strong the urge was to go buy a pack. All those years of saying to myself "I can give it up any time " what BS. Six months is real good , watch out for the dumb ideas. The Nicabates brand is what helped me , I almost had to work out a way to stop taking those for a while as well :D

Cheers guys. I'm hoping that the next generation doesn't have these issues. All of my 18yo daughter's friends are non-smokers. Hopefully our generation is the last one in Australia that buys into the smoking mystique.....shit, I remember when oyu were un-cool if you didn't puff away.....

I was around 30 a day. Tried Champix once then again this time, along with the little nicotene tablets. My own hybrid method. I know what you all are saying about having "just one." That one is disgusting, but it rekindles the desire. This time, I'm going for the long run.

As a side note, Peter Stuyvesants at 30 a day have saved me $3,000 since I quit. THAT is worth thinking about...........

Always happy to be a bit of a support network member, should any desire. Quiting IS hard......but worth it, I reckon.

Yep, Good work.

I'm surprised how many ex smokers there are, i'm one of them too. I can't stand the smell of second hand smoke now, it makes me gag. I can't believe I was so stupid to smoke for all those years.
