Trevor Gore makes a mean cup of tea

Post by LizzyPie » Fri Feb 08, 2013 3:40 pm

Two or so weeks ago I posted on the site putting out some feelers in the looking for a woodworking, preferably luthiery, job dept.

Trevor was one of the kind people who offered a visit to their shops/sheds, and I took him up on the offer last week. If you ever receive a similar offer from Trevor to visit his place, you really should. Especially if you play guitar.

He's wicked smart and knowledgable, as I'm sure everyone aware of the book knows. Holy equations, batman!

He's also really friendly and humble, so visiting with him is a real treat. And, as I said, he makes a mean cup of tea, and I didn't even think I liked tea!

Also, I'm pretty sure he must have just about the most scenic workshop imaginable.( So, if you ever need to travel and want a house sitter, Trevor, just look me up. Though I noticed...no pets or plants that would need to be taken care of...perhaps I should get you a goldfish? )

Trevor patiently answered all my questions, (his favourite Beatle is John, btw, which I will accept as a good answer. It's no George...but we can't all be perfect) walked me through the basic premise of building a guitar, and kindly helped me out with some banjo restringing, for which I am forever grateful.

If you play guitar and have never seen one of his, or more to the point, heard one- his guitars are LOUD. And beautiful- or Handsome and Manly, however you want to look at it. But, I do know that you should definitely purchase one from him, or three. And tell your friends I said so, too. He needs to be kept in business, so I can start up that house sitting venture until I find luthier work. :D

Hi Lizzy,

Trevor is Legendary for his generosity of knowledge, He has changed the landscape of Australian Luthery forever and I think for the better.

About the Formulas , The black Book frightens me, But I did his course and he patiently broke down a lot of the theory for us right brainers,

You were wise to accept his offer of a visit.

Cheers,
Paul .

I'm curious as to Tervor's tea recipe, could you elaborate more on this. For instance, is it organic, a mixture of different tea's, does he heat the cup up before pouring the tea in, and of course does Tervor add milk and sugar? Does he custom blend his tea, according to the different size mouth openings that drink it? Specs, and data to back up your claim of a "mean cup of Tea" would be most useful.

Trevor's tea usually has a sprucey taste......the leaves in the tin have usually been used for a few Chladni testing sessions before they go in the pot

Ah, that's what "reading the tea leaves" means, huh?
I wish I was half the man my dog thinks I am....

I just found this thread. I'm not often in these parts!

Thanks, Lizzie. For those interested, the tea is Ceylon Orange Pekoe, made with filtered rainwater off my shed roof.

It's the Italian cooking that has the woody flavour as I usually use dried 'erbs for the "dust". The oregano is doing well this year...

That certainly couldn't help the flavour at all Martin. An old GF used to make the best cup of tea, ever, from full leaves of course until i caught her rinsing the leaves from the pot with a great swirling flush in the growler!
