Hey Nick,

All the time I lived in Christchurch I don't recall ever seeing an aurora....

Never saw a bloody thing last night, the flare/storm must have come & gone, either that or I left it too late in the night to see it. All the pictures I've seen taken seem to be around dusk & plus that particular photo was out at Lincoln where there's bugger all street lighting. It's amazing how town street lighting can stuff up a night sky! I was out at Lincoln some years ago & was amazed at the number of stars I could see in the sky as compared to how many less were visible from town.

Nice to hear in church but not in a Mexican prison.

I'd love to see an aurora, and to think that when I was a kid we were visiting Norway, inside the arctic circle, all I would have had to do was look outside at night. But I was too young to know what an aurora was, and the days up there last all summer, damn it...

It's amazing how many more stars you can see away from the street lights. I'm in Forster, but if I drive for ten minutes away from town, the whole sky lights up. You can even see the Magallenic clouds.
