Parole day has arrived

Post by kiwigeo » Wed Sep 14, 2011 10:23 pm

Tomorrow is crew change day.....the end of a 4 week hitch for me.

The hitch started fast and furious but after two days of drilling things ground to a halt thanks to a knackered blow out preventer (BOP). For the last 3 1/2 weeks the BOP has been down to the sea bed twice (2 day trip each way) and has spent most of its time sitting in the moon pool with subsea engineers swarming all over it. Right now its back down latched onto the wellhead and theyre pressure testing. I have a $50 bet running with my office mate that the thing will fail tests and be on its way back up to surface tomorrow.

Anyway...a few more hours here trying to find the end of the internet and then Im outta here.

To be stupid is like to be dead. Oneself will not be aware of it.
It's only the others who suffer.

Interesting developments shortly after I left the job.....rig company declared their rig "not fit for service" and the well has been suspended and everyone is packing up and going home.

You found it Markus
Does suspension equal extension of instrument building time Martin?

I have options...when youre a veteran with 25 years experience in the oil patch youre something of a rarity. If I want to work there are clients happy to have me work for them. First priority is a trip to NZ to see the old man and then I need at least a month off to get my sanity back after the last hitch at work. By mid October I might be slightly interested in going back to work.

The strings for the lute are sitting here on the desk so getting them onto the instrument is a job waiting to get done.

I'm glad you're off that rig, Martin. Looking forward to a lute solo. :~)

Ain't a proper lute without the costume & cod piece 5 times bigger than it needs to be Bob :)

Was just talking last week to a Kiwi up in Palmy North that works on rigs Martin & he mentioned that he came home early because their rig experienced BOP difficulties, mentioned something about "Hess"? I mentioned your name but it didn't set any recognition buzzers off for him.
"Jesus Loves You."
Nice to hear in church but not in a Mexican prison.

He'd definitely be off the same rig....sounds like one of the ROV crew.
