Ultimate leap of faith

Post by Steve » Sun Nov 07, 2010 8:28 am

It has no strings, but does have a box, soundhole & melodies. It's that time of the year again when the Eastern Rosella chicks are fledging. If you guys are interested in building one, you can get plans on the net. The critical thing is the size of the 'soundhole' - big enough to fit the male rosella, but just smaller than the shoulder width of a kookaburra (they will try to get in).
It's got to be the ultimate leap of faith - barely enough room to stretch your wings, then jumping out of this box & fly off into the bush - no training manual, no Plan B, no idea how to land.
Here's a pic of some last minute flight instructions from mum...

...and away you go.
We've got this box placed under the eaves, next to our bedroom window, so it's good to have them go. All this week they've been understandably quite anxious, going up & down the ladder all night, in anticipation of going 'over the top at dawn'
