Having bought a deceased makers stash of Indian Rosewood I couldn't resist setting to straightaway with my now fairly settled classical design. The tops are Engelmann. The Rosewood is certainly pretty.

It looks lovely Dave. Great execution with the binding and purfling design and the overall aesthetic. So - how much difference in sound between the maple and the rosewood guitars?

Thanks Mark, as you can see I used different styles with the Maple, Walnut and Rosewood. The rosettes are commercial except for the ‘fan’ since I am unwilling at this point to expend the time to do a traditional version.

The latest, the Rosewood I think is the best I have made. I am however reluctant to ascribe it to the timbers.

I have been using a Torres fan bracing (based on SE114) for all of them but have been slightly reducing the size on each one. The last, the Rosewood, I did more scalloping so the overall stiffness was that little bit lower. A bridge rotation test a la Trevor showed almost bang on 2 degrees so I think I have the right mobility of the top.

However given the complexity of the subject I am not going to say anything definite!

I intend to do a proper analysis of the three, establishing the main resonances etc and maybe that will provide more info on the different back and sides material

A little more work on set up is needed but they are all really nice to play.

As you will know getting the line on the heel to line up properly with the purfling is tricky. With these I was pleased.
