If you're in Colorado it's on display until June 6 2015 at the ISB convention in Fort Collins, and after then will be in New York with AES Fine Instruments.

Always spectacular work Matthew.
I'm guessing you just don't box something like that up and hope that Australia Post gets it to it's destination.

Well done Matthew, that's a really great effort, and a beautiful double bass .

That's right Martin, 2 strings are missing (reminded me of your Kora as well with the nut/bridge)

Well done! After all, it's the sound that counts.

The huon looks more like gilding, lovely bass! Do the "flatter" less arched backs require substantially less timber than their arched counterparts? Congrats on the award!

Stu, its a flat back bass. Yes substantially less timber than a round back and braced in a variety of ways depending on the maker ...
The bass is now for sale in New York.

Top work Matthew. Your build/re-build threads have been missed.
Is that plug in the heel hiding an adjustment for neck angle?

it's a plug that hides a bolt for a removable neck.

No two ways about it - stunning. I really appreciate your 'flat back' instruments Matthew and so less resource intensive as well.
Congrats on the silver accolade too. Gotta be happy with that.
My sister plays and has been hassling me to make her one of these... I may have to get some pointers from you should I ever take up that challenge.
Otherwise, I guess I'll just point her to New York!
Jeremy.

Gary Karr and Ryan Ford.
Gary is one of the worlds leading soloists ... and is playing my bass here.

And yes, that is a clamp on the lower bout. Between Sydney wet winter and Colorado and New York and New Hampshire aircon, there were a few humidity differences. No biggie though.
And I just bought some more of the magic blackwood ...
