Quilted Maple Tenor

Another one completed yesterday. Well, it's been waiting for me to buff and finish it off for nearly 2 months, so thought I should do something yesterday afternoon that was more productive than hoping my ankle would feel better.

This would be the lightest Tenor that I've built. The Maple and Cedar weight next to nothing, and plucking a string just makes the entire body resonate.

Tenor Uke - 17" scale
Body - Quilted Maple
Top - Western Red Cedar
Rosette - Curly Koa & Gold MOP
Neck - Spanish Cedar
Trim - Gidgee
Tuners - Grover Sta-Tites
Strings - Worth Brown
Finish - Mirotone

Maple is usually really easy to bend, but this stuff was a complete pain in the arse. That figure gives you so much short grain that just looking at it wants to fracture it. I've got a couple of extra pieces that didn't have a back set that I ended up having to use to get this instrument.

Fret board and bridge are Gidgee that is rather straight grain and plain. The bindings are curly Gidgee that is also easy to bend, but quite prone to wanting to fracture as well.

Makes ya wanna grab a surf board and catch a few waves! Nice job Allen, the Gidgee sits nicely next to the maple. :cl :cl :cl
Did you enhanced the quilt at all or is that straight out of the box?

The only thing done is pore fill with epoxy resin. It really makes it pop along with with the Mirotone.

That end grain really sucked in the resin.
