Blackwood and Engelmann Spruce Baritone

Post by Allen » Thu Dec 26, 2013 4:50 pm

Finished this one up slowly over the last few weeks. I broke my arm and badly sprained an ankle, so it's been challenging to get the buffing, bridge install and assembly finished. But I did promise the client it would be ready to ship by months end, so just steady, steady and it's complete. The client told me in broad details what he wanted, and let me use my imagination for all the embellishments. So I got to try out some ideas that I've had in the back of my mind.

Back and Sides - Australian Blackwood
Top - Engelmann Spruce
Bindings - Australian Blackwood
Fret Board 12" radius - Ebony
Bridge - Ebony
Neck - Spanish Cedar with CF truss rod
Tuners - Gotoh
Pickup - MISI under saddle
Finish - Miratone over epoxy
Strings - South Coast Ukes linear set (GCEA)

That is a lovely instrument. I really like the shape of the body.

Love it Allen :cl
Body shape and headstock definitely a McFarlen creation. Like the fretboard and markers as an extra twist.

Thanks everyone.

Yes, I like the fret markers. The don't light up on the end enough to see them, so I added the standard white dot directly underneath them. Dead easy to install both on the milling machine. I've also had a few inquires in getting more frets on the board, so that's why I tried out the extended one on this instrument. Getting a nice clean note right to the last, so I'm really pleased with that.

Lovely work Allen. I also like the fret markers as a nice change from the usual.

Sorry to hear about the arm and ankle. Skateboarding injury?

Only wish Mark. Fall at work that has me laid up since the beginning of December, and I'm still buggered.
