G'day all,

A regular customer was thinking about buying a small bodied factory guitar , I educated him on the benefits of handmade and soon after we we where going through the wood pile choosing the timber for his custom made small bodied instrument.

All his choice of timbers, well chosen I think.

This is mostly going to be used as a stage guitar , so I opted for the tried and proven feedback resistant combo of K&K through a Fishman Pre Amp.

The top is WRC (Wood Rat Cast off)
B&S are Ziricote
Neck is Qld maple with Walnut lamination.
Fretboard is Ringed Gidgee , as are the headplate laminations and the bridge.
Bindings are Wenge
Grover tuners.
buffalo horn bridge pins .

it has a nice warm tone with a well defined bass and trebles.

That covers the words I think.

That's a beauty Paul!

The Zirocote is absolutely gorgeous.

I have a 000 Taffy built for me some years back and it has a WRC top and it too has a big warm tone with well defined highs and bass. I like the guitar very much.

Your shape is very appealing too mate is it about the size of a 000 or a bit smaller?

Any chance you could go over that with some 2000 grit so we can see the wood Paul? I am impressed with that gidgee, a fella has been around my place lately and I am helping him get his first build a bit better set up, he built it down south at one of those courses and the ringed gidgee for the fretboard and bridge is stunning.

Your shape is very appealing too mate is it about the size of a 000 or a bit smaller?

It's my own shape Alan slightly longer than a 000, a bit wider across the waist , a bit narrower across both bouts and a fair bit thinner.

It's was meant to be a one off, but as I was buildingthe first one everyone commented on the shape, and I have since built two more.

I have been surprised each time by the volume and projection of such a small bodiy volume.

I also think I may have gone to far with buffing it was a bitch to photograph !

Blame Allen's buffing and sparaying tute's for that...LOL.

Jeff Highland popped over and had a play of it yesterday, was nice to listen to from in front .

My instinctive reaction was "Holy S#!+. Look at that grain."
Once I finally got over that, I could see the instrument was pretty damned fine as well."

I hear Ya Tod, I met the Duck...... and the Swamp Fowl......... and Skippy ....... and this one time a cat that tried to eat John's duck !

The cat did not look so happy .


Anyway now that you mention it , you do kinda need to cross water to get to the wood shack , and the swamp fowl do kinda mill around like sharks and John does have a set of sefety glasses with one lens blacked out and he does refer to his wood as treasure .... Fark he is a Pirate.

Well seeing that England are showing off their ducks in Adelaide today I thought I would show off mine....

Here is the famous Hoover the Duck who has been referred to earlier in this thread....he kindly sat down for me to take this photo as he was doing his rounds of the workshop perimeter...look at that steely glare...tonewood theives beware!

BTW his name comes from the way he hoovers up rolled oats that he gets fed.
