g'day everyone!

i know there aren't a lot of electric builders on here but here goes
i have been waiting until i finished this till i posted some pics but i figured if anyone likes looking at build shots it would be you fellas also work gets in the way so i havent had much time for guitars recently currently just sitting with a few thin coats of laquer.

built using left over tassie oak lintels from a job i was on (im a chippie by trade) and merbau decking that had been in my garage for 4 years. its got a spalted maple headstock veneer and i made some spalted maple pickup rings and maple cavity cover as well. looks pretty slick if you ask me
indian rosewood fretboard, 22 frets, 25 inch scale, brass nut.
this was also my first go at cutting an inlay.

Nice colour combinations and headstock - that will look nice under the final finish.
There are quite few people here that have built electrics, even if they mostly build acoustics.
Its always nice to see what and how other people are doing

I think that is going to have a pretty cool and distinctive look by the time it is under some finish and has all of the hardware on. I like how the stripes run through the body, neck and headstock. Volute is interesting too - a bit different from the Gibson but should feel good in the hand. Please show us some pics of the final result.

yeh it was my first time on a volute wasn't sure on the "standard" way of doing it so i just did what was comfortable. it does feel very natural next to your hand. sort of moulds with the palm a bit

i will definatle post some finish photos. as soon as i can find time to finish it

I visited and re-visited this thread now several times. First thing I can (still) say is that I like to look at it while I don't like to look for too long at other Flying V guitars. Sure that the bare wood look helps a lot, maybe also the elaborate camphors although I have no idea if these are a standard feature of those beasts.

It seems that you maybe have spent more thoughts on the volute than the producers of the original had.

Well I reckon with that design you should at least be able to get it up to the same speed as the factory governed Susuki Hayabusa.

Finally finished this one and I'm pretty happy with it I sanded through the finish the first time around so I had to respray and wait for it to cure again that happens though.

any feedback is appreciated

Looking good Andrew, the spalted timber sets it off nicely, it's a bitch when you sand through, i've done it and probably everyone else as well. Wayne

yeh it was especially hard to get the pickup rings right its so delicate when its that thin.

Nice work. The tapered chamfer gives it a unique look. I like it. I'm assuming you didn't join the neck with an angle?

nah no neck angle. i did some things on this that i don't have in any guitar i own like not having a neck angle. also a fat neck and a wider nut than usual. Turns out i dont like fat nuts or necks
