ziricote OM

Post by 56nortondomy » Fri Nov 08, 2013 1:23 pm

I've just finished this one, had a few hiccups along the way, twice i banged it into the wall and had to repair the dings and i also sanded through the finish in one spot while levelling, what a pain in the arse to repair ( maybe someone with more experience could do a tut on repairing finishes ).

Looks great! I love Ziricote

How did you go bending the sides? I've heard it's a timber that can put up a fight

Thanks for the comments guys. Ziricote can be a bit brittle, you have to thin the sides down a bit more than other timbers, can't remember what i made them but i followed Allen's recomendation. Wayne

Beautiful guitar Wayne, congratulations.

Love your wood selections.

The arm rest is a classy addition.

So if the Ziricote is brittle is it a bright sounding guitar?

Cheers

Thanks Alan, i'd say it's got a warm tone to it rather than bright, i was a bit surprised by it really. Wayne

Very nice Wayne :cl Don't know if it's reflections in the photo but it almost looks like that Ziricote has some flaming in it? And nice choice with the Sass neck :cl :cl :cl :cl

 Now you've pointed it out I can see it as plain as anything and I can't stop seeing the garage door ! Why does that happen?

Nick, it doesn't really matter if it is flaming or a reflection as the guitar comes with the garage door.

I've only tried the pickup on an electric amp, i haven't got an acoustic amp. but it seems good. I'm hoping to get a sound clip from the new owner when he gets it. Wayne

Hi
New to the Forum, being from Tasmania, this is the first I had heard/seen Black hearted SF being used for a neck. How do you think it will hold up?

Regards,
Solandra

Hi Solandra and welcome to the forum.

I've used Sassafras on a few necks and it has been fine.

I do use carbon fibre but I use that on all necks regardless of the timber.

It seems to be relatively stable once it's totally dry and seasoned. (unlike it's behavior when green)

Howden's a nice part of the planet. I grew up in South Hobart.

Regards
Bob, Geelong

Welcome to the forum Solandra, why don't you introduce yourself. The neck is holding up pretty well, like Bob i put cf reinforcing in my necks. Wayne
