Curly Maple Concert Ukulele
Curly Maple Concert Ukulele
As some of you who follow me on Facebook would know, I brought back a bunch of maple from a recent trip to Canada. I was dead keen on building with it once it had been resawn, and this is the first effort.
A rather simple instrument, as the wood itself is so busy that I didn't want anything to compete with it. Neck is Spanish Cedar. Peg Head overlays and bridge are Gidgee, Fret Board and Bindings are Indian Rosewood. Strings are South Coast Ukes.
Built entirely with HHG except for the Carbon Fibre Truss Rod was installed with Epoxy. And the finish is Shellac.

You killed it again! I like the look of it without the rosette, very stylish

I bow to your sense of taste Allen. As you say, the Maple speaks for itself and doesn't need over adorning. The lack of rosette works really well and the chocolate in the IRW bindings really add that extra touch of class, a beautiful instrument. I think you've just completed my most favourite build of yours (to date).

Elegant design, gorgeous timbers and quietly proclaims the craftsmanship of the builder. Who needs bling ?
Pure class Allen. Thanks for sharing (think I'll go hide in the shed now and weep pathetically).

I love that fingerboard end over the top, and also the matching heel cap. And the whole uke.
