# 19 off the bench

Post by steve roberts » Sun Jun 09, 2013 9:47 am

Hi Guys,
Latest off my bench (#19) - tried to be a little bit different. This is the first time I've used Ziricote - it bent relatively easily and I'm really pleased with the way the timber grain came up when finished
Specs:
Body size: 000
Top: Sitka Spruce
Back & sides: Ziricote
Neck: Qld Maple
Fretboard: Queen Ebony
Bridge & Headplate: Ebony
Bindings: Blackwood
Purflings: Paua Shell
Finish: Nitrocellulous lacquer
Neck finish: True Oil
Scale length: 25.4
Fitted with Fishman Pyrus pickup.
Head stock shape inspired by Matthew Artinger's design.
Regards
Steve

You've made an incredible looking guitar there. Very nicely done and an excellent selection/combination of timbers

Very nice looking twanger there Steve. When you say the Ziricote bent relatively easy, do you bend with forms & blanket? (I've got my first ziricote build in my calender and have heard it can be quite brittle unless bent on a form & blanket)

beautiful.

Have a Ziricote set I want to use on an OM 12-string--just because....

Also very interested i the bending process you used, as I only have a pipe, but could get access to blankets.....
I wish I was half the man my dog thinks I am....

Thanks guys
I put more "bling" on this guitar than I would normally. The timber just seemed to warrant that little bit extra. I am pleased with the way it turned out and am glad that you guys don't seem to think it is overdone.
As to how I bent the Ziricote - I bent it over a form in a fox style bender and I used a heat blanket to bend the cutaway in a purpose built mould. I didn't know what to expect so I bent it very slowly and it all turned out well. I would be happy to build another guitar using the same material.
Regards,
Steve

Very tasty Steve. I love Ziricote. In another life in LA we went through many M3 of the " poor mans rosewood". Not the case any longer.

Wow, Steve, there's so much work in this. It looks amazing. What pickup system did you go with?

Hi Martin
Fishman Pyrus sounds great but still don't like cutting big holes in guitars .

Excellent looking guitar, the entire guitar goes so well together.

You should be very proud of that effort.
