Cocobolo Terz

This Terz was the result of a stuff up when I cut the back too small for the O model that appears a bit further down the page. Luckily the colour was pretty similar so the undersized back was destined to become a Terz.

The top is one of Shane Neifers "paint grade" Lutz Spruce tops which cost about 10 bucks landed. (I bought about 20 of these and I reckon I'll use every set as a smaller instrument top)

The Cocobolo is from Bob Cefalu at RCTonewoods.

These are remarkable little instruments very loud but still sweet sounding and I can't help but break into "Down in the west Texas town of El Paso, I fell in love with a Mexican Girl", every time I pick it up. (Check Marty Robbins on Youtube)

I generally tune these up to the G because I think they sound crap when tuned down to normal tuning.

Anyhow here's the pics.

Bob

That's a beautiful looking little guitar.

I was playing a couple of tunes today in normal tuning, but with a capo on the third fret of my 12 fret 650 mm guitar. There's a nice chime with the right sort of piece: cowboy C and G can sound quite exotic.

Is that the Terz scale length (third fret of a 'normal' guitar)?

Kym

Bob,

I'm looking at building one of these next (plans & template have just arrived).
What gauge strings did you end up using?
Thanks for any info.

Missed a few of your questions. Sorry

The scale length I use is 24.9 but the first fret is the third fret (if that makes sense)

Strings are 53-12's. I guess you could use any gauge of string. Just depends on how you brace the top.

This one is standard Martin small guitar bracing. One tone bar and one finger brace per side.

Lovely looking guitar Bob :)

The Cocobolo and the $10 Lutz top are a great match Bob!

Is there any chance you could post a pic of the headstock Bob as it looks stunning from what I can see :)

All the best
Dave

Thanks everyone.

Unfortunately I don't have the guitar any more so I can't take any pics of the headstock. The only ones I have aren't that flash but here they are anyhow.

Hi Guys
I also have a stuffup ,I have a billet of Black Limba which do to shipping restrictions was cut and is to small for a normal guitar and I was wondering what plans you people have used for a Terz Guitar.
The pieces for the side are 30" long and the piece I can get the back out of are 18", I guess I could make my own plans and get something resembling a parlour but these Terz guitars sound interesting

Hmmm what to say about your work that I haven't said before Bob. Computer nerd aye, I think you took a bit longer to get to your real calling.
