Sheoak Squareneck Resonator
Sheoak Squareneck Resonator
Hi
Just finished my sons birthday present ,all be it 4 weeks late
Back and sides : Flamed Sheoak from Tim @ Australian Tonewoods
Neck : Sheoak with Myrtle burl back veneer
headstock : York Burl
Fretboard and back lamination : Mulga
Tuners : Rubner
Cone : Beard
Coverplate and Spider bridge : ebay
Finish : French Polish
when I was stringing it up this morning I used the cone from the ebay purchase and it sounded dreadfull,as luck would have it the beard cone arrived in the post just as I was tuning......... I thought it may sound a bit different but was still feeling the effects of "oh what did I F!@#K up " anyway swapped cones and we couldnt believe the difference,I have a Beard spider and other bridges but havent installed yet as it sounds so good as it is ,after its settled in a bit will probably change them although I dont expect there to be a huge difference

WOW! Awesome guitar, would love to hear it. If it sounds any where near as good as it looks it will be amazing! I love WA Sheaok. One of my favourite timbers.

I think that must be the first square neck resonator I've seen. And man that's nice. Love the combo of rope bindings too.

Now that is shit hot
I've got she oak set that's now been allocated to a reso uke. I'll have to do some more lay ups for rope bindings too.

I'm liking this very much Dave! Great choice of timber and glued together well! Got a round neck on my list of builds 'to do'. Be interested to hear your opinions of any discernable differences if you swap over to the Beard spider, the Beards are supposed to use all the original castings and alloy.

Fantastic looking guitar!
I guess the cutoff from the "soundhole" (or "resonator hole") is just about the size of an ukulele back or top - if you have not used it for the headplate.

Hi
its a bit small for a uke I think, about 250mm
I was just going to make some rosettes with it

Hi Dave,
25 cm would be enough for a soprano ukulele back, but of course not for the sides. If you are not into the small instrument world, rosettes will be a very good use of the leftovers.
Congrats for getting your (well deserved) first commission!

Nice work and beautiful wood, I guess that's why they call it "She" Oak.

Very nice Dave.
I'd love to see more pics of the neck. This is new to me.
Did you make the rope binding yourself?
