Guitar No.2

Post by 68matts » Sat Aug 04, 2012 7:44 pm

Hi All again,
Like the Uke I posted earlier today this one has been finished for a little while now. It took about 6 months to complete but about 4 months of that was waiting around trying to source some wood for the bridge. In the end Tim Spittle sorted me out with a piece that seems to have come from the same tree as the fret board which I got from the east coast
At first I was a bit disappointed with it, it sounded a bit light and airy if that makes any sense ( no balls I guess would be a good way of describing it :) ) but with better strings and a bit of age it's growing on me all the time
Blackwood back, sides and bindings
Bunya top and bracing
Bonaree fretboard, bridge, headstock veneer and rosette
Queensland maple neck

Nice! And a great choice of wood, one just has to look at it! 8)

Nice Matt.

Excellent work.

I really don't mind the bunya. Think I'll get some more of that.
I wish I was half the man my dog thinks I am....

Cheers,
Nick

Another ripper from your shop, loving the fret board & how you've continued the heart/sapwood theme into the headstock veneer. The Blackwood's none too shabby either with some excellent silking on those sides (can't tell with the rear shot but I'm sure it has also  ). Bunya top makes the whole guitar interesting and 'earthy'. :cl :cl :cl

Nice to hear in church but not in a Mexican prison.

Thanks again guys
That Boonaree has some beautiful figuring in it but, like the Minerichi in the uke, it's a shame I don't have any more of it either.
I must say I'm not a huge fan of Bunya ( visually anyway ), it's ok but would not be one of my first choices again.
Nick the photos don't even go close to showing the figure in the sides, it's stunning. Unfortunately the back, while being nice enough in itself, is a huge mismatch to the sides. It was the only timber I had at the time but I wish now that I had waited and matched it with better back wood.
Cheers
Matt
