Finished this one recently, not an exact copy of the Gibson icon, incomplete and conflicting info when i started it, ended up winging it a bit but here it is. Carved Wenge back, lam Wenge sides, carved Cherry top, Qld maple neck, MOP inlayed Ebony F/B, gold evo frets, flamed Black butt headstock veneer, tobacco burs to the top. Hardest thing about this build was getting a nice neat wiring job inside the bloody thing.
Cheers,,,

Rod.

That's Magic Rod , Is it possible to access the wiring via a Rear cover or something ? :cl

Your certainly getting your building chops finely honed Rod! Another beauty from your shop, I like the subtle figuring of the cherry and the burst just looks like it was born for this build! How did you find the Wenge to work with? I have a flat piece for neck laminating, it certainly has a beautiful chocolate colour to it but everytime I pick the bloody board up I end up with a splinter in me paw & not just a tiny one you can hardly see, a Zulu could hunt & kill with these bloody things!
What sort of pups did you go with? A CS356 is on my bucket list, I got some of the Stewmacs "Golden Age" a while back but still haven't decided what to put on, thought I'd try the Golden Ages (They've had reasonably good reviews) & if they sounded like crap I could always replace them with another brand.

But this baby, I likey! :cl :cl

That's a ripper Rod! Are you happier with the finish on this one?

Very neat. Looks great! :cl

Somewhere I have read that cherry would be a boring wood. I never really understood what could be meant with that...

Plays quite well Lillian, had some nice compliments on the necks feel and playability, sounds good, authentic es335 sound.
They are Golden Age PAF's Nick, i'm impressed especially with the bridge pup, very responsive and articulate. Quite happy with tho finish on this Stu but i must say Wenge certainly does try your patience when it comes to filling, had three goes at it thought i had it covered but a few pin holes have still beaten me, i'll do better next time. Third instrument i've used Cherry on i rather like the interesting grain , depending on the finish used it can reflect some rather attractive lights.
Don't know about a rear cover Todd, might be a bit difficult as the back is only6mm thick there, not much to play with, might detract from the smooth lines of the back too?
Thanks for looking,,, Cheers

Rod.

Thanks for looking? Mate, I can't stop looking. One day I'll make a guitar that looks half that good, and then I can die a happy man :cl

I think you'll find a build thread here somewhere.

Geez Rod...

Picking things up pretty quick aren't you? :D

Missed this first post around, but a beautiful guitar you made indeed. Again, that burst is just very, very flash.

Some interesting 'arty' backgrounds have been dropped into the new etched photos, but they do look a treat.

Jeremy.
