Lutz/Mahogany OM with cutaway

I built and finished this OM cutaway in tandem with the Native Olive OM that is in a previous post. This is my second cutaway and I think that it turned out with pleasing shape and proportions allowing good access to the upper frets. The top is Lutz from Shane Neifer in Canada and the back and sides are genuine Swetenia Mahogany that I bought in a billet from Grant at Lazarides Timber in Brisbane. The neck too is genuine mahogany. The fingerboard and head plate veneer are ebony but I used Indian Rosewood for the bridge on this one. I have used the Gotoh 510 locking 21:1 tuners again (they are a favorite of mine). The back is actually a 3 piece because I didn't have enough width with the hog so I glued it either side of a piece of figured blackwood to make up the width. I made a tapered graft on the inside to reinforce the joint instead of the usual 1/2 inch wide strip of cross grain spruce. The binding is figured blackwood as well to match the centre of the back.

Again I will have to try to post a recording of it but I dont have the facility at the moment.

Cheers

John
