I posted these pics on the OLF, so many of you may have seen them already, but I wanted Serge to see them, too.

Strung this one up today: B/S are curly white oak, top is lutz, trim is all ebony and bloodwood. Finished in tru-oil.

Did you make your own tuner buttons? What sort of tuners are they? I can't make it out in the photo....were are my damn glasses

That sure is a nice looking guitar. The curly white oak sure stands out well with the Tru-oil finish. How many coats to get that great shine?
What did you use as a pore filler?
I really like those bloodwood position dots and tuner buttons.

I wanted to ask you if now that you have some playing time on an OM if you might like the OM shape better then dreads?

I would not have thought of the combination of Oak and Bloodwood, and it works really well together. The black purfling sets it off perfectly. I'm sure I would have added a light purfling as well, and it would not have been this classy. That binding/purfling scheme will stick in my head.

The bloodwood trim was suggested by BobC, the zootman and all the wood except the ebony came from Bob.

I did not make the tuner buttons myself. They were custom made by Bill Nichols. The tuners are Schallers.

Hesh, I do like the way the OM sits on my knee better than the dreads.

About the finish: The neck is nothing but tru-oil, I think I put 8 coats on it. The top has a seal coat of clear shellac then 6 coats of tru-oil. Lightly rubbed with 0000 wool every two coats, then hand rubbed out with medium then fine rubbing compounds. The B/S was filled with z-poxy (another first for me), sanded level, then two coats of garnet shellac to deepen the color of the oak some, then 6 coats of tru-oil applied and hand polished the same as the top.

Oh yeah, Dennis, the purfling is actually black/bloodwood/black. Looks good in person, but didn't photograph well.

Well, its a good thing that he is moving and rather busy right now. It will give time to finagle some overtime. Need to pad the coffers first. Don't want to upset the bookkeeper too much. The couch isn't that comfy, cat takes up too much room.

with the trim . I can't get over how stunning the curley oak is! I'll have to see if Bob has any more of that !
