My last contribution to the Gallery got lost with the recent crash. Rather than recreate it, I decided to post some pics of an OM that I'm taking to Canada next week -- I have family reasons to drop into Canada on my way to Europe on business, but the client is quite happy he doesn't have to pay shipping on this one!

The design of this OM very much involved the client -- he chose the Malaysian blackwood (Diospyros spp.) from Allied's website, Norway spruce (Picea abies from Germany) for the top, and asked for lots of ebony: fingerboard, bridge, headplate/backstrap, tuner buttons, heel cap, binding -- even the pickguard is ebony (real thin!). I used a lot of simple BW purfling on the sides and fingerboard to frame everything while not going "over the top". I wanted the style to have some finesse, but let the wood speak for itself. I wish I could capture the sound, as I'm really pleased with this instrument -- hope I can remember how to do it again!

Nice looking guitar Tim & you've hit the balance just right with the binding, it's not too over the top but just accentuates things nicely & the finish is superb.

Good eyes. It's Honduras mahogany -- the real macoy. Haven't got much of that stash left, so I'm needing to find someone in NZ who's got large dimension, high-quality Fiji-grown material -- does that exist? Thanks for the reminder to drop by City Timber to see what they have or can get.

That is a very classy OM Tim. I bet you will remember how to do it for the next one. The combination of timbers is lovely.

I don't know about a supplier in NZ, but Gerard Gilet in Sydney has quite a bit of Fijiian plantation mahogany available.

I delivered this guitar in late October, and it has just been used by Toronto guitarist Jeff Biggar (http://www.jeffbiggar.com) to make a recording of Andy McKee's "For My Father". It's the first time I've seen and heard one of my guitars in a recording of this standard. Gotta admit, it's pretty emotional for me, particularly as my own father died just before Christmas.

I must apologise for failing to commenting on this instrument earlier, there have been matters of distraction that have left me missing the better parts of our forum.

I must agree with all of those above, its a wonderful looking 'and' sounding guitar, and my lack of response was never intentional.

Must add that Jeff Biggar does an exceptional job in playing that beautiful piece of music, but no more so than your own effort of pulling all of those great bits of wood together into one magnificent guitar.....well done.
