Way too cool Jim . That fretboard inlay design seems very fitting on a uke. I like the bolt-on arrangement too ! . Great work mate

Fantastic looking uke there Jim, you really do have a great style that is all your own.
(Word of advise, be careful leaving John alone with that uke, he may get his whittle wax all over it.)
Cheers
Kim

Very nice Jim, like your neck design might have to pitch it.

I'm amazed that this along with many other fantatsic looking pieces on this forum comes with no sound or video file... I am a hopeless photographer but I just set the camera up on a tripod and shoot some pretty low-fi video- it says so much more than any glossy pic - even if the sound is terrible. Try it you guys - it's not difficult

I can see where you are coming from Pete but.......Why show off your work with a crappy sound track? I would want the work I've spent ages sweating over to be shown in it's
best light, nice pictures & the best sound track I could produce to give a true representation of what I hear & the amount of work that's gone into it. A bad sound track tells others
nothing other than A: I couldn't be bothered taking the time to do a decent video or B: that my instrument does indeed produce a crappy sound.
Sorry Pete, but that's just me. I've sweated blood over this instrument for 3-5 months, I wouldn't be doing it justice if I'd only spent 3 minutes producing a video to show it to the rest of the world. It would be the same as after completing the wood work just brush painting a coat of polyurethane on it & calling it done to me.

Are you "amazed" Pete cause I have posted sound with my past instruments but as yet have not got around to doing one for this one? I do agree with you, it is always nice to hear a clip and agree that it does not have to be Hi Fi. Although this has been heard on the forum pre-finish (I glued the bridge and strung it up before spraying) I will get time eventually, maybe even sing you guys a song just for the fun of it.
Jim
Life is good when you are amongst the wood

Hi Jim
Can you point us to the build thread (late 2009 or early 2010 ??) for this method of uke bolt-on neck, or did the description & images get lost in the Big Crash?
Cheers & thanks

G'day and welcome Bob. You are correct the headstock is parallel to the fretboard and just lower. You may have seen it before though on a few electric guitars that are either Fenders or copies of Fenders using the Fender headstock building method.

Hi Nick,
i live in Waianiwa, between Riverton & Invercargill.Shirleys son is in the wobbles too.We bought him down here for a break.I couldnt believe the holes in the ground, seemed unreal.
Thanks for the welcome guys. I am in the process of getting a debit card and finding suppiers for timber n strings n machine heads etc.Cleaning my old tools and i'll have to buy a router.
1st i'll build a Tahitian uke n then modify it my way and get my hand in.
My wife owns "the Meanest " double bass in town.I dubbed it "The Dinosaur",cos ya need a truck to cart it.So
i'd like to build her a Bass uke .Before that though i want to start building "MY UKES" which i cant tell anyone about yet.
This is a gr8 site i've picked up quite few good ideas here. But it's rather daunting seeing so many quality instruments n thinking ,"could i build something as beautiful as that?" ... i hope so.
