Koa Soprano with Frangipani Inlay

Post by Allen » Mon Oct 31, 2022 6:46 am

I've been asked to build quite a few soprano's the last year and orders still coming in. This one is the third I've built for this client who has a massive collection of instruments and knows what she likes in the way of sound and playability. This time she asked for Koa body for a warmer tone over Australian Blackwood that tends to be much more bright in comparison.

So Koa body with Australian Blackwood (Sapwood) bindings and rosette. The rest is ebony with the inlay being pressure dyed Maple and Faux Ivory that has black scrimshaw shading and color.

That looks amazing. Particularly the combination of the blackwood binding with the Koa. I would not have thought they would go together but, clearly, they do.
Lovely work, as ever.

How many ukes have you built now Allen??

Haven't numbered them but going by my commision list and a rough guess of how many spec ones, it's well over 500. Then another 150 for uke building classes that I ran.
