This guitar is a Dreadnought style from a plan I bought back in the mid 1970's by Joseph Wallo, there was an obituary for him in the Guild newsletter some months ago. It wasn't until I had built a number of guitars from this plan that people started commenting on the shape, how different it was. I don't know if these photos will show this but it is a bit slenderer than a regular Dred. I liked it so kept it going.
As with many of my builds customers want to commemorate something or someone with their guitar, and this is no different.
As can be seen by the inlays it has a nautical theme. This customer in NSW had signed up for the Round the World Clipper Race and the Sydney to Hobart, and wanted this guitar on his return. That gave me a year to work on this project, not only that but except for the suggestion of a nautical theme, I had a blank canvas to work with. How good is that? Hence the name "The Pacific". As with all my guitars it's the named after an old goldmine on the Charters Towers goldfields back in the day.
This guy works in the gold mining business so I thought I had to use gold some where, gold & ebony Schaller tuners, gold strap pins, Martin gold strings and yes you guessed it, gold frets.
The body is Mahogany
Top Englemann Spruce
Neck Mahogany
Fingerboard/Bridge Ebony
Inlays are MOP and Ebony
Sound, I'm not very good at describing sound,
but to me, it seamed a complex sound very balanced bass to treble but with other tones going on, underlying the fundamental notes played. It has good volume but the sound came at you 'peaceful like" compared to a '000' completed at the same time that had a sound that came at you in a "blow ya hat off" sort of way. Now there's descriptions you aint heard before 
Maybe I should ask the customer what he hears?Anyway have a look....
