I find that a pair of folding wedges helps keep the fretboard blank firmly against the right side of the mitre box and are quick and easy to reset for each new fret position. A bit easier on the fingers than holding it in place.
Oh and a couple of dowels into dogholes in the bench keeps the box in place.
