Kerfed lining jig

Post by DarwinStrings » Fri Jan 30, 2009 12:42 am

I have had a request to post some more information on my kerfed lining jig.

This is not a tutorial and I do not advise anyone to use a band saw. Band saws are dangerous animals and have been know to take large bites out of humans.

During my apprentiship I spent much time looking over the shoulder of a experienced tamer of these wild beasts and only after this was I allowed to go in the cage alone with one.

The parts I used were all part of my scrap collection other than a few bolts, some nyloc nuts and the springs.

The pivot arm and drive dog are 20mm x 6mm aluminium, the rest of the aluminium is 20mm x 3mm but improvisation works.

I would work to similar dimensions if I were to make it again.

The tip of the both dogs should be reasonably sharp.

The handle adjusts to suit different thickness of lining which may not be needed for some.

I used bolts and nyloc nuts for all articulated joints.

Dimensions.

Anti backfeed dog....... 70mm
Drive dog................... 80mm
Drive arm..................255mm
Drive arm slot..............20mm
Pivot arm...................205mm
pivot arm pivot point.....65mm from drive dog pivot point
Kerf division stop........160mm
Anti backfeed bracket..100mm then kinked a bit to get the dog to sit lower on the workpiece

Hope that is helpful
