Masterclasses at BGMS – Open to Public

Post by lamanoditrento » Fri May 16, 2025 8:39 am

Hey All,

BGMS are running a new series of lutherie masterclasses. They’re open to both students and anyone from the broader community who’s keen. All are hands-on, detailed, and led by people who know their stuff.

The first one available for booking:

Trevor Gore – Modal Tuning
22–24 August (Fri–Sun), Rocklea QLD
$1250 for current students/alumni, $1400 for others
Includes catering. Limit 15.

Book Here: https://bookeo.com/bgmszz?type=3352AECT9Y196CCB0CA8F

Trevor doesn’t need an intro here. This is a structured, practical look at how the air, body, and structural modes work together—and how to tune them for consistent results.

If demand warrants, we may run a second session later that week.

Other upcoming sessions (dates TBC):
Peter Ward – (Finesse 2 Pac & Finishing) Finish Prep for Spraying
Focus on surface prep for modern sprayed finishes (Nitro etc). What to look for, how to correct issues before colour goes on.

Nigel Forster (NK Forster Guitars) – Semihemispherical Fret Ends
Nigel’s take on the slick fret dressing to mirrored globe. More than just rounding—it’s about feel, longevity, and presentation.

David Linton (Australian Guitar Timbers) – Resawing Tonewood
A working session on resawing billets into plates. Covers safety, setup, and yield—especially with local species.

Happy to answer any questions. If anyone’s travelling in, I can recommend nearby places to stay.

Cheers
Trent

We’ve now sold the quorum of seats for the August masterclass—thank you to those who’ve already secured their spot.

A $250 deposit is all that’s needed to lock in your place. If you’re keen to join us, get in touch soon as remaining seats are limited.
