Hi guys

New member here.
Who’s got the hookups for good timber suppliers and sources? Any links or info would be much appreciated.

Thanks :D

Hello there,

Tonewood in Australia is available but you need to seek it out yourself. Times have changed dramatically with many tonewoods from overseas not permitted into the Australia or out with the introduction of new wood laws. Since covid19 there are many in the tonewood business that did not survive. Not only that a nicely figured set of Blackwood for a dready in 2004 was about $200. Have a google and see what the prices are now.

Stew Mac in the USA you cannot go wrong as they have been around since the 1970s and there products , although dear in some instances, their service and tools are great and they will replace broken items.

As far as tonewood goes google tonewood australia and establish some business relationships out there as there are plenty of tonewood suppliers that will bend over backwards to help you here in Oz.

Good luck with your building.
Cheers
Alan

Welcome to the forum and thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself.

Occasionally there''ll be wood and tools up for sale on the buy and sell sub forum. Right now Nigel has some nice Queensland Maple back and side sets for sale. I bought a few and the wood is good quality. http://www.anzlf.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=9366

Most of my wood buying was done a few years ago and I was buying tops in bulk mainly from Canadian tonewood suppliers and back and side sets from a mix of Australian and overseas suppliers. Buying in bulk brings discounts and and per unit shipping cost is much cheaper for bulk orders.

For tools I mainly use Stewmac or LMI...but prices are not cheap. If you plan on getting serious then taking out a Stewmac Express membership will bring down freight costs significantly. Service at both these outfits is very good....if the goods aren't to your satisfaction you wont get screwed around.

There are a few Australian suppliers of tools and wood. Here's one run by one of our members: https://guitartemplates.com.au/#

A lot of us used to get great wood from Tim Spittle - aka Australian Tonewoods - when he was in Perth. I notice that he is now back in business operating from Deloraine in Tasmania. Has anyone had any dealings with him since the move?

Hi there again,
I received an email from Tim last week. He is now operating his tonewood business in Tassie.

The site is a work in progress but there is plenty there to look at.
I have used Tim for tonewood supplies and his material and service is great.

I've been speaking with Tim over the last few months while he was getting organised, although he hasn't got
everything listed yet he's ready to go with most stuff. He's a great bloke and happy to help if anyone has something specific they're after. He's helped me out a few times with special orders. Wayne
