Peg shaver

Post by Robinm » Sat Apr 30, 2022 9:02 pm

Greetings from South Ronaldsay in the far northern Isles of Scotland.
I've been meaning to make a peg shaver for many months now and have finally got to it after reading Charangohabsburg's excellent post.
The base is an old piece of sapele rescued from a house renovation; the metal work was scavenged from a spokeshave that I bought and subsequently never used.
I drilled and reamed a second hole in the base after trying out Charangohabsburg's suggestion of burnishing the finished peg with soap. It works pretty well.

Welcome to the forum Robin. I've added the photo to your original post and removed last post.

Nice work with that peg shaver.

A good looking jig!
It must be fun to make your own.

Hi Mark,
Yes it was fun to make. I'm a beginner student luthier so chiselling the mortis for the blade was a good exercise.
