Looking of old copies of The Strad

Post by graham mcdonald » Wed Jul 07, 2021 11:28 am

I am looking for a couple of issues of The Strad, the British bowed strings magazine, from December 1981 and January 1982. They contain a two part article by Australian violin and guitar maker Graham Caldersmith on Cremonese varnishes. If anyone has an idea of who might have a stash of these magazines I would be delighted to know. Thanks muchly!

I'd like to jump on the bandwagon, if I may!

It's not about guitars per se, but rather has to do with family members of the famous violinist Jascha Heifetz.

I'm looking to find an article in The Strad of February 1986 (pages 776 - 777). This was an article written by Heifetz's cousin Gertrude Reed on the occasion of his 88th birthday. I've been researching Heifetz's family for the last 20 years, and I've collected this reference, but have never been able to source a copy of the magazine. Maybe if you've had a subscription, and might just have a copy of this issue, you can help to kill two birds with one stone!

Ta,

Frank.

I’m wondering if the Delcamp forum might be a good place to look. There is a bit of violin stuff on there. Alan Carruth regularly posts and he started out with violins.

Cheers Dave.

PS am still studying your mandolin book in preparation for the change to a completely different build!

Thank you for the suggestions, but one of the violin shops in Sydney had them and scanned in those articles.

Cheers
