Fretboard question

Hello all. Simple question really. Does a fretboard need to be quarter sawn?
I'm hoping not as I'm well into my fourth build and I'm embarrased to admit this has never occured to me before, and because I've got a lovely peice of blackwood with grain going the exact opposite of quarter sawn.

Quarter sawn is preferred for dimensional stability. Most fretboard blanks will be a bit off the quarter but Id be wary of using flat sawn wood for a fretboard.
