Fretting, Michael Bashkin

Post by Dave M » Tue Oct 20, 2020 2:57 am

I have bought this video training course from Robbie OBrien and it is really good.

Michael is very clear in his explanations and puts forward his methods without being dogmatic pointing out different ways of doing things.

The camera work is excellent with good close ups.

Although a lot of this stuff is available in different places, for me at least, it is very valuable to have it all in one place.

Well worth the money Dave

I have checked with Robbie and Michael and they are happy to field queries here.

I have a couple of minor questions

When talking about relief Michael you are working with a 14 fret neck body joint guitar, although you fret at the 12th fret. If we have a 12 fret join should one drop down to around the 5th fret to check relief?

When using a Dremel type tool to clear the fret slot I wonder what sort of bit you are using? I imagine a bit with smooth shank and just a bottom cutter would be the one to use so that it is guided by the existing fret slot without widening it.

There is such a wealth of info in this course I suspect further questions will come up.

Cheers Dave
