New GS Guitar Build Started
I have started a new guitar build in February 2019 and this will be a slower stage project. (I need to provide additional care and support for my wife who is having ongoing medical treatment over the next 6 months. At this stage the treatment is progressing well). As time permits I will continue the GS model guitar build.
I had stored in my timber stash an Amazon Rosewood Back and Sides set that I purchased from LMI before the 'CITES' problem created overseas shipping issues with rosewoods. I am also using a German Spruce Top, refer to pdf photo attachment. As the guitar build progresses I will provide some progress updates.

I totally relate to your wife's situation if her ailments are indeed that serious...I confront a similar thing personally and am on my own with it...too late for a caring commitment from a caring partner, in my case. My interest in luthierie is a good way to keep my mind off my worldly problems along with meditaton. So much respect from me to you as a carer.
All the best, peace love and prosperity, Ross

Those were lovely words Ross.
Yeah I guess there are a good many of us riddled with ailments, myself included but don't want to go there.
I share wholeheartedly your views that getting on with some Lutherie and discussing it all here is a great great form of medication.

Re: New GS Guitar Build Started
I have been able to make further progress with the Steel String GS Guitar build.
A small split on the the German Spruce occurred while working on the top and I had to make a small patch on the top (refer to attachment pdf photos). I have now closed the box and installed the purflings and side binding. I had some minor issues installing the the black walnut veneer on the streamline bevel that required some touch ups. All now is good and now looking forward to making the guitar neck next as time permits.

Looking good Wayne nice ,neat and clean inside the box, looks like it'll be a winner when it's finished. What's the tape you use for the bindings?

I used the Scotch 3M Green Masking tape purchased from Bunnings for binding and it does the job. However, I think it would be better to use a stronger type of binding tape as recommended in the 'Gore / Gilet' Build Book.
Thanks Wayne for the positive comments on the guitar build.

Thanks Wayne, I was just wondering what it was, RC tonewoods sell a green binding tape and I thought that might be the one. Wayne

Re: New GS Guitar Build Started
I have made some further progress with the GS Guitar build and will be making the bridge saddle slot soon. (Refer to pdf photo attachment).
The next stage will involve checking for any marks or minor gaps that need to be fixed and then grain filling the Amazon Rosewood ready for spraying the sealer coats / nitro lacquer coats. When the guitar is completed I will put a posting in the 'Gallery'.

Looking good Wayne, nice touch on the end of the f/b. Do you cut the inlay cavities by hand too ( dremel ? )?

Re: New GS Guitar Build Started
Thanks Wayne for your good comments. Yes, I use the Dremel tool to cut the inlay cavities and I make up a clear epoxy mix with Macassar Ebony dust to glue the pearl inlay and fill up gaps that occur when cutting the cavities out freehand. I generally do the inlay work over a two three day period.

Hi Wayne
Thanks for showing us your work. I like the little details like the symmetry of the headstock and bridge shapes. It is looking really good.

I don't know about a slow build Wayne it seems to be going pretty fast to me! And jolly nice looking too.
It is probably not of any significance but Microsoft's SmartScreen filter doesn't like your photo site for some reason - had to turn it off to look at your PDF's.

Nice work Wayne.
I haven't (and probably never will) graduate from solid body electrics. I certainly appreciate the skill it takes to build acoustics. I don't play much acoustic so I suppose it narrows my focus. Not to mention I'm still expanding my skillset within my own realm.
All the best to you & your wife too.
Cheers,
Mick

I have a Mac computer and an external drive that I can switch to that runs Windows 10. In Windows 10, I set up a file to arrange the jpeg photos on a page and then convert the file to pdf. I'm not sure either what is the problem with the SmartScreen filter. However, I just find it easy to format the photos together and hopefully making it easy to view more photos. I'm glad to he hear that you found a way to view the pdf photos.

I purchased my curved bracing chisel about 3 years ago from 'Stewmac' and 'Stewart Macdonald' Brand is stamped on this Chisel.

Re: New GS Guitar Build Started
I have now been able to make the bridge, grain fill the rosewood with 'Timber mate' and spray 5 wet coats. The final 6th coat (50:50) is yet to be added and then wait 3 weeks for the the Nitro Lacquer to harder before wet sanding from 600, 1200, 1500, & finally up to 2000 grade ready for the buffing and polishing stage.

Re: New GS Guitar Build Started
I have now been able to finish the guitar and after a few days of settling in the relief and intonation has been set up, refer to pdf photo attachment. I will post in the 'Gallery' a series of photos with a video sound track soon.
