Here is a question. I have my own method but I'm sure I can get better results. I am wondering how different repairers break the seal formed by lacquer finishes on areas like the nut to neck join and the neck to body join where the neck is installed before the finish is sprayed. When doing, for example, a neck reset, the lines where the neck and fingerboard join the guitar can chip out unless the join is cut through somehow. I have been using a scalpel and a sharp carving knife for this operation, and a little thinners to soften the finish as I work. Attached is a photo of the lacquer seal on a Gibson nut. The job entails making a new nut, I intend to remove this and replace as well as colour match and fill so that the instrument looks like it does in the photo. Does anybody have any tips? -Ross
