Hi all,
Thought it was about time I said hello.
I'm a fitter by trade and sort of stumbled into the luthier world by accident.
About the hardest thing I've ever done with wood is wack a 4" nail through a piece of 4x2 - until now.
Here's my first 2 attempts at turning lumps of 6x2 into something both useful and beautiful.
The parlour guitar was where I learnt how much I have to learn. Its kahikatea top, rosewood ribs and base, rimu neck. I made a major stuffup attempting the binding. This was rectified when I left it in a stupid place and the rain got at it.
The violin sounds not to bad (many thanks to Juliet Barkers book). Its kahikatea top, rewa rewa ribs and base, rimu neck, rosewood fingerboard.
Many thanks for to all for the vast treasure trove of posts. They've keep me reading useful hints way into the night
