liquid hide glue for frets.

Post by old_picker » Tue Jan 17, 2017 5:35 pm

currently refretting an old Gibson explorer and tossing up whether to use LHG instead of CA gel I usually use. Reason is the CA is tricky if you get it on the Gibson finish. It is easily dissolved by acetone :( I have used Titebond original in the past for this reasonj.

Any one used LHG?

Advantages of fish/hide glue over Titebond? Ease of clean up is an obvious one but a wipe with a damp sponge immediately after the fret is seated takes care of any squeeze out. Titebond works for me so I dont see a reason to change.

The main advantage i see is that fish / hot hide dries harder.

As long as the musician doesn't smell like they have been recently fishing or worse, it's ok by me

After a bit of reading I decided to go with Titebond original which I have used before. I ended up buying a bottle of Liquid hide and used it to glue the new bone nut into the job. Hopefully the bond will break easily for the next bloke who has to remove it.
