Interesting product

Post by Jeremy D » Tue Aug 30, 2016 7:57 am

Just read about an interesting pore filler on another forum. It is a UV cure product but only needs sunlight to cure.

Here is a video of a guy using the pore filler and top coat.

Someone mentioned that they used the pore filler on a uke and it worked well. In the video the guy mentions that it cures so hard it is difficult to level sand.

Tried it extensively.

To get a good bond, 240g is as high as you can sand. That will leave visible scratches unless you sand by hand carefully or avoid certain woods.

It chips in large sections.

If you do not get it cured fast enough it will still cute hard, but with a rubbery top film that is extremely difficult to remove. However, unlike the guy you mentioned, it's easy to sand and level if you can avoid the rubbery film.

It can be coated with their clear, or urethane style paints. I didn't try nitro but see no reason why it wouldn't work.

If you want to spray it, you'll need to microwave the paint until it's hot, so it's more viscous. That then speeds up cure time if you mix the optional hardner.

If it cures in your spray gun, you'll need to buy another. The Mek hardner will cure it without sunlight.

If you paint outside, and have a white plastic paint cup on your gun, it will start curing slowly.

It stinks, but low VOCs

You can use acetone as thinner, but it will trap solvents.

We were offered a distributorship but declined. Freezeshop in the uk is the cheapest online we found.

Other brands of uv style paints recommend a barrier coat over oily woods. Solarez offers no product for this. It will peel. (Rosewood etc).

Their clear coat buffs nicely. You will get visible witness lines if you buff through one coat to another.

For a hobby builder it offers some good solutions.
