Just wondering if the headstock angle is different on a steel string if it has a solid or slotted headstock, any opinions ??
Cheers

Re: Headstock angle
Personally I go a bit lower on the angle with a slotted headstock to avoid excess break angle over the nut.
Re: Headstock angle
I use same angle on both my classicals and slot head parlours....12 - 15 degrees. Jeff's advice makes sense though.

Re: Headstock angle
Yeah i thought it might be a relevant issue with the strings being pulled on a deeper angle in a slotted scenario.just wondering what the general preference is,, slotted angle / solid angle??

Re: Headstock angle
My current slothead steel string build is 10 degrees as opposed to my normal 13-14 degrees on a paddlehead.
The final result you get(as far as break angle) also depends on the protrusion of the posts above the solid face and the distance from the nut to the rollers on the slothead. as well as fretboard thickness.
If you use locking tuners on a solid head you can get away with quite low headstock angles.
I am increasingly convinced that low break angle is desirable for tuning stability and reducing wear on the nut slots.

Re: Headstock angle
My slot heads are set at 7 degrees. Paddle at 12 degrees.

Re: Headstock angle
Thanks for that very helpful info,i want to try a slotted peg head on one of my next builds so I'm out a bit of thought at the moment,i need to redesign my normal headstock to suit.
