Integrate in to your next build perhaps?

Post by Nick » Sun Jun 14, 2015 10:56 am

Just seen a new wireless midi controller pad that fixes somehow to the face of an acoustic (double sided tape?). http://acpad.com, could be an interesting concept for a solo player wanting to enhance their sonic palette? I've seen many midi controllers, most, if not all up until now have consisted of cumbersome triggers Frankensteined onto a poor donor guitar but this one is quite sleek at 2mm thick.
Not sure about the donor guitar colour on this one though!
"Jesus Loves You."
Nice to hear in church but not in a Mexican prison.

My pal Ian uses midi in some of the bands he uses. He might go for this. Doesn't look like it would do the acoustic sound much good but that's no bad thing for a stage guitar. It would fit on some electrics though which might be more useful.

Be handy if there existed a physical tool that could be used to track the notes/ chords you are playing on an acoustic/ electric guitar (what notes/string/ if bent/ hammered off/on etc) and then convert those to midi information for import/ export into sibelius or an other piece of composition software or DAW. Allowing you to transpose or alter a song as you see fit (or just have a backup of a gig). Imagine the programming though...yeeesh...

Hi Stu and all,
Is this the sort of thing you have in mind? It's a portable midi guitar pickup that a young fellow I know is working on. Check out the two youtube demo videos and if you have any feedback I'd be happy to pass it along.

Midi pickup systems for acoustics have been around for some time. Scott Henderson used one when he was with Tribal tech, Frank Gambale while with Chick Corea and Al Di Meola uses a Roland system on an Ovation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71XXQXY0yvA

Post script/correction: Henderson and Gambale of course are playing electrics but the basics are the same.

Cheers guys I just never seen one. But it would be super handy as I don't think I'm ever going to get around to being a classically trained musician :P
